Start Thinking About the Forty Days of Lent The first Sunday of Lent is February 26th, just after Ash Wednesday on Feb. 22, and we are asking everyone to be in a small accountability group this year during Lent. Join a group below or create a new one centered around your interests. Regularly ask the question "How goes it with your soul?" and get to know each other better as the whole group grows in Christian Faith. Current Groups-

- Cindy Breeding: Lenten Coffee Tasting Discussion: members will sample local coffee and converse about a range of topics. The caffeine fueled discourse begins on the week of February 19 with the topic "What's in your name?" This topic will give members the opportunity to get to know each other by doing research on the meaning behind the names in the group. There is meaning behind people’s names and this will help the members know each other and themselves, while answering questions about how well we fit our names and if the meanings of our names can help up to live more spiritually focused lives. Ash Wednesday Services: February 22, 2012 - 7 am, brief service, for those who need to get to work.

A fight breaks out between two preschoolers. The parents or caregivers break up the fight and insist that the children tell each other they are sorry. On the rarest of occasions is there a sincere “I really am sorry I did that. I was wrong. Please forgive me.” Usually, for the children involved it is just an exercise in saying the right words to keep from getting into even more trouble. Inside, the little ones are screaming “It wasn’t MY fault!!!!!” |

Luminous moments happen when all seems transformed by light. We cannot create, engineer or demand those moments, although I think the constant need for greater and greater entertainment stems from our desire to enter into that luminosity. But the real moments of it are rare—and fleeting. |

Where would we be without doubts? Well, my last name wouldn't be nearly so recognizable, for the otherwise obscure disciple of Jesus named "Thomas" only became famous because he doubted the resurrection. Still, the church has a reputation as a place where no doubts were permitted. As they say, "The Bible says it, I believe it, that settles it for me." Nice, neat, simple--and a recipe for cognitive dissonance. |
