New Pastor Arrival

Scheduled to arrive July 1, the Rev. Sonya E. Shahan will be the new pastor of Krum 1st United Methodist Church.
Rev. Shahan was introduced to Church Council members by Dist. Supt. Ron Henderson in a meeting at the church Monday evening.   The announcement today is scheduled to coincide with an announcement in Paradise UMC where she currently is lead pastor.
A resident of Shady Shores, she will commute to the church for her half-time position at least for the first year of her assignment at Krum.  With growth in the church, her position can be expanded to full time.
She served as children’s elementary and pre-teen coordinator at Trietsch UMC from 2007-2009 and served as associate pastor of adult spiritual development and missions at Fellowship UMC in Trophy Club from 2009-2016. She served as interim senior pastor at Fellowship in April through June, 2014, and has been lead pastor at Paradise since 2016.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a master’s in library science from Texas Woman’s University, and was graduated from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
Rev. Shahan has been assistant spiritual director on weekend retreats for the Walk to Emmaus since 2011. She serves on the board of managers for the Perkins Extension School for local pastor education.
She and Robert, her husband of 22 years, have two children, a daughter Kathryn, 21, who is a senior at the University of Dallas, and a son, Jackson, 16, who is a student at Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound. Daughter Kathryn has been accepted to Boston University’s Master in Social Work program next year, specializing in trauma.  Robert Shahan owns a CPA firm in Lewisville.
Rev. Shahan lists her number one goal as a pastor as “leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through engaging worship and discipleship opportunities for all ages and life stages”  and “moving beyond the church walls and engaging all ages in service and outreach to the community.”
We look forward to having her join us in Krum.
