Rev. Sonya Shahan

I am extremely blessed to have been appointed as the pastor of Krum First UMC since July 1, 2019. My husband, Robert and I, have been married since 1996. We are the proud parents of two children, Kathryn and Jackson.

My education includes a Bachelors of Science in History from Texas Woman’s University in 1995, a Master of Library Science (MLS) from Texas Woman’s University in 2001, and a Master of Church Ministries (CMM) from SMU’s Perkins School of Theology in 2012. I became a candidate for ministry in the North Central Conference of the United Methodist Church in 2008 and completed local pastor licensing school in May 2013. I then completed the classes required for basic and advanced Perkins Course of Study School (COSS) for local pastors in August 2015.

I have served on paid ministry staff at both Trietsch Memorial UMC in Flower Mound and Fellowship UMC in Trophy Club. I received my first pastoral appointment at Fellowship UMC in April 2013, serving as the Associate Pastor over Adult Ministries and Missions/Outreach. My second pastoral appointment was serving as lead pastor of Paradise UMC for three years. And now I am in my third pastoral appointment here at Krum 1st UMC.

My passion is to connect people to the love and grace of Jesus Christ as we experience God in worship, grow in our faith together and deepen our relationships with each other through discipleship, and live out our faith through love by serving in missions as we seek to meet the needs of the local community. My hope and prayer is that Krum 1st UMC is the congregation that you will find comfort in calling home and journey with us as we grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. No matter where you are in your personally faith walk- whether a new or exploring Christian, or one who is more mature, please feel free to contact me at
